I generally make Ants on a Log with peanut butter and raisins, because that's what we have on hand, but any nut butter (or even cream cheese?) and dried fruits could be substituted. The kids love helping to make these too, especially arranging the "bugs" on it.
Ants on a Log
1/2-1 cucumber per serving
peanut butter
raisins
Peel cucumber and cut long-ways down the middle. Scoop out seeds and pat dry. Spread peanut butter in the seed cavity and top with raisins as desired.
It goes without saying, too, that this works quite well with celery stix. We've drizzled honey on the pb, i've add pretzel stix zig-zagged (A twig obstacle course!) as well as dried cranberries (fire ants!)... well, you get it. HAVE FUN!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen it done on anything other than celery before. Nice! My youngest loves cucumbers, bet he'd love this.
ReplyDeleteI have used celery or cucumbers for this snack!
ReplyDeleteOut of raisins? Sprinkle on some nuts (my kids called that beetles on a log...ewwww)or diced apple (maggots on a log...ewwww!)
We usually use celery, but I've also done it with zucchini, using cream cheese and dried cranberries, or dried ground cherries. :)
